Exploring Mgahinga Gorilla National Park Located in the clouds of southwestern Uganda, Mgahinga Gorilla National Park is the country’s smallest but perhaps most dramatic national park. Part of the larger Virunga Conservation Area, it sits on the slopes of three extinct volcanoes: Mount Muhavura, Mount Gahinga, and Mount Sabinyo.

Mgahinga Exploring Mgahinga Gorilla is one of only two places in Uganda where you can trek the endangered mountain gorillas. The park is home to the Nyakagezi gorilla group, a family known for its frequent travels across the borders of Rwanda and the DRC, though they have settled permanently in Mgahinga in recent years.

Beyond Gorillas: Golden Monkeys and Volcanoes

While gorillas are the main attraction, Exploring Mgahinga Gorilla offers much more. It is the only place in Uganda where “Gold meets Silver”—where you can find both the rare Golden Monkeys and the Silverback Mountain Gorillas. For adventure seekers, hiking the three volcanic peaks provides breathtaking views of the entire Virunga range and the chance to stand at the intersection of Uganda, Rwanda, and the DRC simultaneously on Mount Sabinyo.
