Tour takes you deep into Rwenzori Mountains National Park and around the spectacular Rwenzori mountain range. This UNESCO World Heritage Site protects the highest parts of the 120 km‑long and 65 km‑wide Rwenzori massif, home to dramatic glaciers, jagged peaks and some of the most unusual alpine vegetation on earth.
Rwenzori Mountains National Park shelters around 70 mammal species and 217 bird species, including 19 Albertine Rift endemics. As you follow the classic trekking route towards Margherita Peak (5,109 m) on Mount Stanley, you pass through lush montane forest, bamboo zone, giant heather and high‑altitude moorland. The vegetation here is unique to equatorial alpine Africa and makes the Rwenzori Mountains trekking with Margherita Peak summit a truly world‑class hiking and mountaineering experience.
Along the trail you encounter fast‑flowing rivers, clear mountain streams and impressive waterfalls, which, together with the layered vegetation zones, create exceptionally scenic and photogenic landscapes. The mountains are famous for their other‑worldly alpine flora: towering giant lobelias, groundsels and heathers, many of them endemic to the Albertine Rift and found only in the highest altitude zones of the Rwenzori.
Your Rwenzori adventure is fully guided, with professional mountain guides and porters to increase your comfort and safety. Nights are spent in simple mountain huts that offer shelter and hot meals, and each day brings new viewpoints and opportunities for photography. For more background on this extraordinary protected area, you can also explore the official UNESCO Rwenzori Mountains National Park page
Whether you are an experienced hiker or a strong, determined first‑time high‑altitude trekker, the Rwenzori Mountains Trekking with Margherita Peak Summit itinerary is always worth the effort. Standing on Margherita Peak, looking across the glaciers and cloud‑filled valleys, is an unforgettable highlight of any East African adventure. Many travellers choose to combine this trek with wildlife safaris in nearby Queen Elizabeth National Park or primate experiences in Kibale and Bwindi – our team can help you link this climb with other Uganda safari tours to create a complete and memorable itinerary.
